Rotary Club of Daytona Beach Awards $500 to Volusia Flagler Family YMCA for Y READS!

The Rotary Club of Daytona Beach recently awarded a $500 grant to the Volusia Flagler Family YMCA to support its Y Reads! after school program at Turie T. Small Elementary.  The Y Reads program serves 45 students, grades 1-3, performing below grade level through evidence based curriculum that seeks to close the gap between students’ reading performance and the State of Florida’s reading standards. The program meets the educational and developmental needs of students by providing structured and supervised services, with a primary focus on improving students’ reading skills. The grant from the Rotary Club of Daytona Beach will fund the acquisition of iPad Minis to be used in the program to incorporate technology into student lessons. Teresa Rand, President and CEO of the Volusia Flagler Family YMCA, said of the grant, “We are thrilled to be partnering with the Rotary Club to help these students bridge the learning gap.  Rotarians seek to serve their community in areas of great need, as does the Y.  We are proud to be working together on this endeavor to help this youngest generation gain the skills they need to find success in academics and beyond.”IMG_0365 IMG_0366 IMG_0363
