Olive the Other Reindeer Lesson Plan and Pictures

“Olive the Other Reindeer”
Before reading the book the Turie T. Site Coordinator posed the question:
1. Have you ever thought you heard somebody say something only to find out that’s not what was really said? Students share their answers and talk about some of the consequences of misunderstanding someone.
2. Follow that question with the activity of whispering a phrase in a students ear then that student whispers the phrase to another student and so on until all the students whisper heard the phrase. The phrase is only to be said one time to each student. The last student repeats the phrase. Then look at the paper where the phrase was written to see if it was the same phrase each student heard.

3. Read the book
4. Do a Compare and Contrast Activity on the board.  (whole class) Draw 2 circles that overlap each other in the middle. Label one side (dogs) the other side (reindeer) and the middle (both)
List the things Olive did that was like a dog before and after she met Santa. List the things Olive did that was like a reindeer. List the things Olive did that both reindeer and dogs might do.
Make Rudie the Reindeer treat.
Enjoy!
