Mercedes Wood, the site coordinator at Pizzo YMCA READS! program, decided to digitalize the SIPPS lessons (Systematic Instruction in Phonological Awareness, Phonics, and Sight Words). Mercedes stated that “I saw an opportunity to give my students the perception that SIPPS instruction can be fun. I also noticed a drastic change in behavior and engagement during the lessons.” YMCA READS! individualizes lessons and engages students in learning to read by providing quality instruction and mentoring in small groups. Digitizing the lessons on powerpoint is yet another way of reaching our most challenged students in reading. Congratulations Pizzo YMCA READS!
